Phases of a Daydream is a fantasy-drama feature, co-written and directed with fellow Amherst College student Caden Stockwell. The film follows a recent college graduate named Nora (Isabelle Anderson), who finds herself in a strange and whimsical world where she meets a cast of zany characters in colorful locations — and learns to confront her grief.
Over the course of a year with a budget of only a few hundred dollars, Caden and I independently orchestrated every creative and executive detail of the ambitious passion project — including crafting five monochrome sets from scratch, animating a 10-minute stop-motion sequence, and commissioning an original score from Gabriel Proia.
Phases of a Daydream was met with glowing reviews during its three-day theatrical premiere and subsequent release on YouTube. The film garnered the attention of a small but devoted following on Letterboxd, and Caden and I were invited to have a deep-dive discussion on the STACKS podcast.
